Training for an Ironman Triathlon can take up to a year of hard work and preparation. When the big day is finally approaching, there are a few things you can do to make your big day go smoothly. Give yourself at least a few weeks before the big race to get acclimated to your new gear so that you can make sure it works for you, and get used to it. The last thing you need during the Ironman is for your new shores to give you painful blisters.

Back off your training intensity a little. Don’t give yourself the week off and sleep all day, but relax your intensity and give yourself some wiggle room. The last thing you want is to peak during a practice run and then fall behind during the actual race.

Get your bike tuned up a few weeks before the race. If anything is going to be off-kilter after a tune up, you want to know before the race, not during it. This way, if anything’s going to crop up, then the problem can be fixed before race day, rather than on race day after your time has been affected. Physically Prepared

Hiking often involves a lot of physical exertion. If you are not feeling well or if you are recovering from an illness, consider postponing the activity or choose a trail that suits your physical capabilities.

Inform Others of Your Plans

Always let someone know about your hike, destination, and schedule. It is important that someone knows where you are going and when you are planning to return, especially when you are hiking alone.  Doing so will make it easier to get help in case of an emergency. Dress Appropriately

Beach Picnic Tips that You Just Can’t Ignore

The sun is good, but staying exposed to the sun the whole day will leave you sunburned. The first thing you want to do when going on a beach picnic is to make sure you have sufficient shade. A portable gazebo or a large beach umbrella will offer you good shade and protection from the sun. You might also want to apply some sunscreen lotion on your body. Get a bottle of sunscreen lotion with the highest sun protection factor (SPF).


A picnic on the beach calls for lots of food. Since you are going to be out on the beach the whole day, enjoying the sun, sand and surf, you are going to be quite hungry. A good idea would be to pack some delicious food, fruit, water, snacks and cold beverages. Beer, wine, and fruit juice are perfect for any beach picnic, but make sure you have sufficient drinking water for everyone in your group.

Picnic Cloth

You might have all your food in Tupperware, but you still need something to place the food on, and placing the Tupperware on the sand is not a good idea. You will need to get a picnic cloth, or a tablecloth for that matter will be sufficient. If you are using a tablecloth, you will need to weigh down the corners.

Hiking is an excellent outdoor activity. If you enjoy being outdoors amidst the beauty of nature, then hiking might be the right activity for you. You do not necessarily have to head into the woods or the mountains to hike.

Decide How Long You Want to Hike

Since you are starting out with hiking, you do not have to take up too much. Start with trails that are not too long and that can be completed in a couple of hours’ time. You can choose a trail that does not require you to carry extra clothing and camping gear. If you have a just a couple of hours spare during the weekend, you might want to pick a trail that is four or five miles long. It will take you just a couple of hours to complete the trail. Work with small trails and build up your stamina before you take on other longer trails.

Going Alone or in a Group

You can choose to hike alone or in a group. While hiking alone might be a good idea, it is not recommended. Hiking alone leaves you vulnerable on the trail, and it is not safe to hike alone. On the other hand, hiking with a group or a friend is better. You have company, and you can use this time to learn valuable hiking tips from the group you are hiking with.
