Angela Lynn Rapley – The Benefits of Swimming

While all forms of exercise can benefit your health, some forms of exercise are easier on the body than others. Angela Lynn Rapley from St. Louis Missouri is a registered nurse at the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital enjoys running and biking as part of her exercise regimen. However, the one that she prefers to all the rest is swimming.

There are a few things about swimming that benefit the body more than other forms of exercise. One of those reasons is fairly obvious, and that is less stress on the joints. The buoyancy you experience in the water makes jarring and knocking the joints almost impossible. People who are recovering from injuries, or have arthritis, or any other disease that affects the joints may find that the pool greatly alleviates their pain and provides a comfortable place for physical therapy or gentle exercise.

Another benefit of swimming versus other forms of exercise is that the water is not only gentle on the joints, but it’s also provides greater resistance. In the water, you experience around 12%-14% more resistance, actually making the exercise you do in the water more effective than exercise out of the water.

When you go for a run, the risk of overheating is a legitimate concern. When you are swimming, the water cools your entire body, greatly lowering your risk of overheating. Angel Lynn Rapley steps up her swimming in the summer as a way to avoid overheating during an extended run. Swimming is a great, gentle way to get the exercise you need.

Angela Lynn Rapley – E-Readers versus Paper Books

Book lovers all over the world have one thing they can all disagree on. Which is better, a paper book, or an e-reader? Angela Lynn Rapley, a registered nurse and mother of one from St. Louis Missouri, has an affinity for paper books. Some believe the sheer number of books you can read on an e-reader outweigh the scent of paper and binding that many book lovers adore.

Angela Lynn RapleyThere are certainly pros and cons to each method of reading. E-readers have convenience going for them, since they are light-weight and don’t get heavier just because you have a hundred books on them. Finding and purchasing new books is also very easy to do, provided you have a Wi-Fi connection you can get any book you want. Many classic books are available for free on e-readers.

E-readers can also be read one handed due to their lightness and one simple touch can turn the page. E-readers also often have note-taking and highlighting capabilities.

However, something about a paper book feels nicer to some. The tactile experience of the pages and writing hand written notes in the margins are all things that carry some significant nostalgia and emotional meaning to the readers. Though some might consider the weight of a real book to be a disadvantage, others like the substantial feel of a book as opposed to a tiny e-reader.

Angela Lynn Rapley prefers to read a real paper book when she’s at home, but when she has to travel, she prefers the e-reader for its convenience in size and for the ease of obtaining new material once she’s finished a book.

Angela Lynn Rapley – Iron Man Preparation Tips

Training for an Ironman Triathlon can take up to a year of hard work and preparation. When the big day is finally approaching, there are a few things you can do to make your big day go smoothly. Angela Lynn Rapley is an avid swimmer, biker and runner, and is hoping to complete an Ironman triathlon very soon.

Angela Lynn RapleyFirst things first, don’t do anything new. No new gear, no new routines, nothing. If you want to get new shoes, a new seat for your bike or new shorts, don’t wait until the day before the race. Give yourself at least a few weeks before the big race to get acclimated to your new gear so that you can make sure it works for you, and get used to it. The last thing you need during the Ironman is for your new shores to give you painful blisters.

Back off your training intensity a little. Don’t give yourself the week off and sleep all day, but relax your intensity and give yourself some wiggle room. The last thing you want is to peak during a practice run and then fall behind during the actual race.

Get your bike tuned up a few weeks before the race. If anything is going to be off-kilter after a tune up, you want to know before the race, not during it. This way, if anything’s going to crop up, then the problem can be fixed before race day, rather than on race day after your time has been affected. Angela Lynn Rapley is going to be very cautious with her bike before her Ironman race day.

Exercise has been proven to reduce stress levels. It increases the brains production of endorphins, feel-good chemicals, which can help you feel good despite whatever it is that is stressing you out.

Some people consider exercise as a way of not only releasing endorphins, but as a sort of meditation. Registered nurse Angela Lynn Rapley of St. Louis Missouri finds that when she is mountain biking, she forgets about the worries of the day and instead focuses only on getting up the next hill. She also enjoys exercising outdoors as a way to reduce her stress level.

Exercise can also help you sleep better, and if you sleep better, you may find that you are better able to deal with the challenges of life. Good sleep is a vital component of having good mental and physical health.

If you want to reduce stress by exercising, the first thing you need to do is choose an activity that you would enjoy. You probably won’t experience stress relief if you are regularly walking the treadmill when you’d rather be swimming or running the local nature trail.

In order to experience all the benefits of exercise for stress reduction, you need to exercise on a regular basis. This means scheduling a time to exercise and stick to it. Once you make it a habit, you may find it’s easier to get started, and then you’ll likely begin to see the stress reduction that comes from regular exercise.

Plan Ahead

Make sure you learn as much as you can about the place ahead of time. Check updated guidebooks and maps to be familiar with the terrain, trails, streams, and other physical features of the area. It is equally important that you are familiar with the poisonous plants found in the area.

Physically Prepared

Hiking often involves a lot of physical exertion. If you are not feeling well or if you are recovering from an illness, consider postponing the activity or choose a trail that suits your physical capabilities.

Inform Others of Your Plans

Always let someone know about your hike, destination, and schedule. It is important that someone knows where you are going and when you are planning to return, especially when you are hiking alone.  Doing so will make it easier to get help in case of an emergency. Don’t forget to check weather reports before you leave.

Dress Appropriately

Wear light-colored pants and sleeved tops. Light colored clothes will make easier for you to see if there are ticks and bugs on you. Avoid cotton clothing if the weather is cool. Cotton insulates poorly and does not dry quickly when wet. Always wear a watch with you to be always aware of the time.

Important Traits of an Effective Nurse

If you are considering a career in nursing, know that it is one of the toughest but most rewarding jobs there is. It demands a lot of time and patience from those who pursue it. It involves dealing with physical strain, emotional and mental stress. Since medical emergencies can happen anytime, nurses are usually required to work overtime, on weekends and even on holidays. However, it is one of those professions that allow you to make such a big difference in many people’s lives. Nurses greatly contribute to the mental and physical health of their patients. They not only give the skills and knowledge they learn from nursing school, but they also give their patients a piece of their hearts.

Angela Lynn RapleyGreat nurses should have a compassionate and caring nature. They should be able to empathize with their patients from different walks of life. They should make patients feel that they sincerely care for them. Nurses also need to be emphatic to understand what their patients are going through and provide the best possible care they need.

They also need to know how to listen carefully to what the patients want as well as to doctors’ orders. Good nurses follow directions effortlessly and easily communicate with the patients and their families. Nurses with good communication skills greatly satisfy their patients and prevents medical mishaps.

Beach Picnic Tips that You Just Can’t Ignore

Going on a picnic is a great idea, and going to the beach for a picnic is a better idea. What better way is there that to spend the day at the beach with your family? Here are a couple of beach picnic tips that you just can’t ignore.

Angela Lynn RapleyShade

The sun is good, but staying exposed to the sun the whole day will leave you sunburned. The first thing you want to do when going on a beach picnic is to make sure you have sufficient shade. A portable gazebo or a large beach umbrella will offer you good shade and protection from the sun. You might also want to apply some sunscreen lotion on your body. Get a bottle of sunscreen lotion with the highest sun protection factor (SPF).

Food

A picnic on the beach calls for lots of food. Since you are going to be out on the beach the whole day, enjoying the sun, sand and surf, you are going to be quite hungry. A good idea would be to pack some delicious food, fruit, water, snacks and cold beverages. Beer, wine, and fruit juice are perfect for any beach picnic, but make sure you have sufficient drinking water for everyone in your group.

Picnic Cloth

You might have all your food in Tupperware, but you still need something to place the food on, and placing the Tupperware on the sand is not a good idea. You will need to get a picnic cloth, or a tablecloth for that matter will be sufficient. If you are using a tablecloth, you will need to weigh down the corners.
